pan modeimage modeexpert mode

Step 1 - Pan Mode: Panoramic view of a full wall line, with distances.

To use pan mode, hold the Walabot against the wall, calibrate and scan from one side of the wall to the other. Pan mode will show an image of objects within the wall and approximately where they are located. Pan facilitates a quick overview of where studs are placed in the wall.

Different classifications of objects like wooden studs, metal pipes, and plastic pipes will create unique colored stripes in the image viewer.

Each type of object will be defined by the stripes and can be used for future reference in either Image or Expert mode.

Step 2- Image Mode: visual classification of studs, pipes and more.

To use image mode, hold the Walabot against the wall and move over the objects which were identified in Pan mode.

Walabot RF technology will analyze the objects and translate the results into images which are identified by type according to the results.

Results of RF readings can identify wooden studs, metal studs, pipes, and wires.

Step 3 - Expert Mode: see the raw signals from the Walabot sensor.

Expert mode gives a direct view into the unfiltered RF produced image. This image can show location in more detail, curves in pipes and wires, the intersection between two objects, movement in real time and can be used to confirm objects found in Pan and Image mode.

Expert mode gives a direct view into the unflitered RF produced image. This image can show location in more detail, curves in pipes and wires, the intersection between two objects, movement in real time and can be used to confirm objects found in Pan and Image mode.

You can focus the expert mode by managing the intensity bar to better see the objects.

INTRODUCTION

OVERVIEW OF THE WALABOT DIY

Find out what the Walabot DIY is for, what materials it detects, and how it’s able to see through walls! Plus, we’ll give you a quick walkthrough of how to get started:

  • Install the app.
  • Attach the Walabot DIY to your phone.
  • Begin seeing through walls.

CALIBRATION

HOW TO CALIBRATE YOUR WALABOT DIY

You’ll need to calibrate your Walabot DIY to the specific wall you’ll be working on:

  • Place the Walabot DIY firmly against the wall and push ‘Calibrate’.
  • Press ‘Start Scan’ and move the device in a circular or figure-eight motion, covering at least 16-inches for the best results.
  • Once Walabot DIY familiarizes itself with your wall it can look through it to see studs, pipes, wires, and more.
  • Remember to repeat this process if you switch to a new wall.

PAN MODE

QUICK VIEW OF WHAT’S BEHIND YOUR WALLS

  • Pan Mode gives you a quick panoramic overview of what’s hidden behind your walls.
  • To begin, place the Walabot DIY firmly against the wall. Hold down the button, and slide the device slowly along the wall, in one direction
  • You’ll now see an overview of the objects behind your wall, indicated by the bright bars on your phone’s screen.
  • Objects of the same material all appear as the same color.
  • If you see objects that repeat consistently, in terms of distance and color, they are most likely studs.

IMAGES MODE

CLEARLY IDENTIFY HIDDEN OBJECTS

  • Images Mode gives you a clear graphic representation of what objects are behind your wall.
  • Select ‘Images Mode’ and move the Walabot DIY slowly and firmly along the wall.
  • On your phone’s screen, you’ll see any metal studs, wooden studs, pipes, or wires that are found.
  • If the pipe or wire is difficult to follow or decipher, or you want to find the center of a stud, this is the time to switch to Expert Mode for a more detailed view.

EXPERT MODE

RAW DATA FROM THE WALABOT DIY SENSOR

  • Expert Mode lets you find intersections of wires or pipes, follow the path of pipes or wires, and even track movement in your wall.
  • To begin, press ‘Expert Mode’, place the Walabot DIY on your wall, and move it slowly over the desired area.
  • Start with the intensity at 80%. If you see all red, lower the intensity until you see a defined vertical or horizontal shape.
  • It takes some time to learn and follow, but Expert Mode will give you the most accurate view of what’s behind your wall.

HOW TO FIND STUDS

DETECT STUDS AND FIND THEIR CENTER

  • Hold the Walabot DIY against the wall, and press ‘Start Scan’ moving the Walabot DIY in large circular motions to calibrate it.
  • Begin with Pan Mode to get a panoramic view of the wall, and a basic overview of where the studs are.
  • Switch to Images Mode for a closer look. If a stud was found, you’ll see a stud graphic on your phone.
  • To find the stud’s center, switch to Expert Mode. Move the Walabot DIY slowly over the stud, and adjust the intensity bar if necessary.
  • Make sure the image is centered, then mark the center of the stud on your wall.

DETECTING ANOMALIES

FIND INTERSECTING OBJECTS AND RECESSED WIRES

  • In Images Mode you can only see one object at a time.
  • When two objects are close together, intersect, or have a curving path (like a bending pipe), you may get readings that flicker onscreen. You may also get a message “Nearby objects detected”.
  • To get a better understanding of what’s happening, switch to Expert Mode. You’ll now be able to see the outline of both objects, identify the intersection point, and follow their paths.
  • Similarly, if you’re following a wire in Images Mode and the wire disappears, switch to Expert Mode. If you see that the color starts to fade, the device is indicating that there is a recessed wire.

ADVANCED DETECTION

TIPS FOR DETECTING PIPES AND WIRES

  • In Images Mode, Walabot DIY will not show two images onscreen at the same time. You may get a message “Nearby objects detected” or your image will flicker onscreen.
  • Move the Walabot DIY around in a wider area to determine if there is a second object.
  • If you’re following the path of a pipe or wire which seem to curve, rotate your phone and keep it parallel with the pipe or wire as you continue to scan, as shown in the video.
  • To get a better understanding of what’s happening, or more accurately track a curved pipe or wire, switch to Expert Mode.

LATH AND PLASTER

FINDING STUDS IN LATH AND PLASTER USING THE WALABOT DIY PLUS

  • Lath and plaster differs from drywall:
  1. Studs can be placed on edge or flat.
  2. Horizontal laths fill the whole wall.
  • Set up: Connect and calibrate your device, select plaster, start scanning, and you
    will see a red image.
  • To detect studs:
  1. Move the Walabot DIY Plus from left to right in order to find the object.
  2. Find the right level of intensity of the image to suit your project’s needs.
  3. Move the device up and down to make sure you have a continuous signal. This indicates that you have found a stud or pipe.
  • In order to verify that you have found a stud: look for a repeating pattern of images, usually every 16 inches apart.
