We'll do anything to avoid getting sick. Yet... most people don't realize the items getting us sick are what we use every day - towels

While being used, towels are contaminated with skin grease, sweat, and bodily secretions like dead skin cells

These contaminants cannot be seen with the naked eye, but can be harmful to your skin and overall health

The towel you used this morning is now breeding ground for potentially life-threatening bacteria

Lifecycle of a Towel

If the towel smells bad to you, it’s already way too late. Mizu is a reliable way to tell how dirty your towel is.

Standard towels have to be washed at low temperatures or they will break down. This lower temperature is where skin infecting bacteria like E coli thrive. These bacteria are especially potent to children. This is why it is important to wash and dry towels at high temperatures.

The Science Behind Mizu

Mizu’s Natural Detection System

How Mizu Stacks Up

Mizu is made to be washed at high temperatures and won't lose softness or usability no matter how many times you put it through the wash. This is because of the rigid quality control standards modeled after the inspiration behind Mizu - perfectionist Japanese Craftsmanship.

Luscious Absorbency

Due to soft water and purity from harsh chemicals, Mizu towels have unbelievable water absorbency.

Harmony in Quality

Most towels can dry you. Some are even soft. A few amazing towels even dry quickly. Mizu takes it a step further by weaving these qualities with bacterial prevention and impurity detection.

If you have children, you know they love two things: gross stuff and animals. Mizu’s child towel and bib helps teach staying clean in a style kids love.

Technology & Tradition in Every Thread

The Story

Our story began in Imabari, Japan.

The city, nestled within the inland islands of the Ehime Prefecture, is known as the towel making capital of the world. At the world’s towel making capital we watched spinning, weaving, precision at levels of quality that challenged us to create something truly special for the folks at home.

We wanted to pull a modern, hygienic spin on a well-known product: the towel. The simple notion sparked a complex idea - what if we engineered home products that could detect and prevent bacteria? The potential for the technology would be endless, towels just being the start. After countless iterations, cups of coffee, meetings with factories, scientists, and engineers, Mizu has finally come alive. We can’t wait for you to experience it.

How do I wash my Mizu Towel?

We recommend machine washing in cold and gentle cycle for optimal washing to maintain the good quality of the towel, however you can also wash in hot water and high tumble dry.

Why have the sensing strips come out of the wash pink?

This actually means that there is still some soap left on your towel after you have washed it. Some brands of detergent (e.g., Tide) don't dissolve as well in water compared to other brands. Please try another brand of detergent and run it through a wash again and you should see that it has turned blue if all the soap has come off.

Strips not changing colors?

Sensing areas won't change color unless they detect contamination that requires cleaning. For instance, after repeated contact with bacteria, dirt, or sweat. To test this, you can use something with a similar chemistry as sweat, such as Sprite, and it will most likely show a change.

Where is Mizu produced?

The crafting process of Mizu begins in Japan and is completed in a specialist factory in China. This factory's expertise is towel making for the Japanese market and for Japanese companies. We do this to ensure that the towel is high quality and follows Japanese craftsmanship principles while remaining affordable.

How can I tell if they have silver in them or not?

Although difficult with the naked eye, if you look close enough you may see the different threads. Otherwise, there are also various machines/detectors where you can use a sensor to check Mizu's silver content.
