iTraq is a cellular tracking device - the world’s first global location device that can be found anywhere. iTraq determines its location using cellular towers allowing iTraq to be located anywhere in the world where cellular service exists.

 

 

While creating iTraq we tried to overcome the disadvantages that similar devices on the market have. So, Why is iTraq better than similar devices?


While other location devices claim they can be found anywhere over large distances, the truth is that they are all using Bluetooth wireless technology. 
Why is that important for the user? Bluetooth has a small detection radius (tens, hundreds of feet maximum), which greatly limits its scope of use to household devices, such as keys, remote controls, etc.

 

Since iTraq determines its location using cellular towers, its radius extends as far and as wide as all cellular towers.  This, in turn, allows you to attach iTraq to a bicycle or boat, place it in the pocket of your child, or even  attach it to your baggage, and still be detected even if your baggage travelled to another country or continent.

 

Most other devices that work globally, like GPS technology, are known as very power intensive consumers of battery life.  Even the most recent advances in battery life only allow a GPS device to work several days if not only hours.

iTraq uses Cell-ID technology and lets you adjust how often iTraq should report its location, from a few times in an hour to a few times in a day, and can work up to 3 years without the need to recharge a battery.


 

Most other devices comparable to iTraq are likely to come in very bulky form factors that make it impractical to place or locate.

However, iTraq is as small as a credit card, only slightly thicker - like 5 cards together. It can be placed in a glove compartment of the car or even hidden under the seat of your mountain bike. It can also be hung on the strap or stuck on a flat surface with an adhesive strip that is supplied with iTraq.

 

 

 
Is GPS-level accuracy really needed for these applications? We believe it is not. iTraq allows enough precision to let you know if your child is in school or on a football field, or if your car is at home or in the parking lot. iTraq does not use GPS, but it does use a technology that scans cellular towers that are in proximity to determine its location. The more towers it sees, the more precisely iTraq can determine its location. 

 

 

 

Proprietary software allows  iTraq to stay in sleep mode most of the time - this helps to minimize energy consumption and achieve an amazing battery lifetime.

Depending on the schedule set by user, iTraq wakes up, determines its location by scanning cellular towers in range and transmits data to the server.

Then all the location information is displayed on your mobile phone or on the website.

 

 

 

   

 

iTraq’s Mobile Application allows you to activate iTraq and manage all the iTraqs that you have. Each iTraq can be assigned a name and a separate alarm ringtone. The number of iTraqs that can be tracked and logged in the application is limitless.

For each iTraq you can view the map that contains a history of its locations with time stamps.

You can always check the status of iTraq and its remaining lifetime. Or you can change the frequency of wake-ups, depending on your needs.  

 

 

Sometimes it’s important not only to know where the iTraq is but to detect if it has suddenly left the designated area (for example, a boat near the summer house slips its mooring). To this end, we came up with the Guard mode. You can specify the radius on the map and if the iTraq goes beyond this pre-set radius, you will receive an alert on the mobile phone. 

 

 

 

We have completed the Test Board stage which is the first prototype of our device. Our engineers used this phase to connect external peripheral devices to complete the testing, debugging, and power consumption measurements. We have also finished developing the module firmware and completed the testing against the Test Board. iTraq has successfully proven that our concept works and now have the first production release in development mode.

We are very excited to deliver iTraqs to our first 100 beta testers by June 2015.

Is this a one-time fee for the iTraq device or there is an additional subscription or fee to track an object? 
The fee is all-inclusive. All communication expenses are included in the price, so there is no additional charge for tracking.

Really one-time fee? I really do not understand how it can be one-time fee. There is a SIM Card for GSM communication and feedback, how can that be a lifetime subscription? 
Yes, correct, this is a one-time fee. We estimate that iTraq during its life will make roughly near 1500 communication cycles, which it about 3 years of iTraq life for once-a-day report cycle. Based on this estimations we have made an exclusive agreement with our communication provider. So, all these expenses are already included in price and there is not additional charge for the user.

How can you be sure it works worldwide? 
The iTraq will be shipped with GSM SIM card installed on the factory. We have signed an exclusive agreement with our communication provider to service us Globally. That guarantees that iTraq will work everywhere where cellular service exists, which is pretty much everywhere in the world.

Do you provide the SIM cards? 
Yes, iTraq is shipped with SIM card installed on the factory, so you DON'T need to buy your own SIM card and pay for the service.

If I fly back to China, and I have iTraq attached on my backpack in the airplane which is in the sky, would my parents in China still able to find my position in the APP? Then when I land in China, will it work in China too? 
iTraq uses cellular operators to determine its location and to transmit the data, so when you are on the plane it won’t be able to scan towers nearby and connect to report its location. However, when you land in China it will be able to detect your location during the next wake-up cycle, transmit data, so your parent will know you arrived.

How can I recharge the battery inside my iTraq device? 
The iTraq battery is not rechargeable at this time, but we are creating a service to replace the battery. This service will be announced in June, when our first devices are released.

Does iTraq have GPS or Bluetooth inside? 
No, iTraq does not use GPS or Bluetooth technology. It determines its location by scanning cellular towers nearby. This is why iTraq can be located anywhere in the world where cellular service exists.

What accuracy does iTraq have in terms of tracking precision? 
iTraq will track with enough precision to let you know if your child is in school or on a football field, or if your car is at home or in the parking lot. iTraq does not use GPS, but it does use a technology that scans cellular towers that are in proximity to determine its location. The more towers it sees, the more precisely iTraq can determine its location. In urban areas the accuracy of detection is within a city block.

Is the iTraq device water resistant? 
The current version of iTraq will be waterproof enough to resist rain and ambient moisture, but it won’t be able to withstand underwater exposure for long.
