Air is drawn through the filters fitted with crystal salt of the salt pipe and is purified as it's drawn over the natural salt crystals. This gives the user a sensation that is a lot like taking a deep breath of fresh sea air or visiting salt caves. Using the salt pipe, the moisture of the air absorbs the microscopic particles of salt, allowing it to penetrate the entire respiratory tract. It works by drawing excess fluid from the sinuses and cell lining, cleansing the nasal passages and opening the airways to relieve the main cause of congestion and irritation. The salt has a thinning effect on mucus, helping you to clear it naturally and breathe more easily. See more about how it works.

Saltpipe Can Help With
Using the Saltpipe is super simple. Place the ceramic pipe in your mouth and inhale as normal, exhaling through your nose. Don't worry if it tastes a little salty the first time you use it. This will fade after a few uses. After using the salt pipe regularly for about a week you will begin to notice that breathing becomes easier and deeper and any coughing caused by respiratory problems should lessen.
The Cisca Saltpipe can also be used to cleanse deep into the nasal cavity, helping those who suffer with rhinitis or sinusitis. Simply place the pipe close to one nostril, inhale and then swap to the other side.
Before the child uses the friendly Cisca Elipipe it's recommended that an adult uses the pipe a couple of times first. The air in the saltpipe is initially a little salty which can put children off.
Normally, the Elipipe is recommended for children three and up. However there is no real age limit but children younger than three may struggle to use it. Try to stop anyone from blowing into the saltpipe as that may damage the salt crystals. Children should also be taught to breathe through the mouth and out of the nose.
Saltpipe's history can be traced back to 1843 when Polish physician Dr. Bochkowsky noticed salt miners didn't suffer from breathing issues or respiratory diseases. In his unique book he stated that respiratory diseases could be cured or treated naturally. This practice called 'Speleotherapy' was used as the primary inspiration for the Cisca Saltpipe.
In 2002, two scientists from Budapest thought of a revolutionary way this treatment could be brought to the masses in portable and easy to use. The Saltpipe (Sópipa as released in Hungary) was an instant success following medical trials and a Class IIa medical rating that proved its effectiveness as a treatment for breathing issues.
After the benefits displayed in Eastern Europe Cisca expanded and unleashed the Saltpipe onto the UK market. Now on sale here for over five years Cisca's original and patented dry inhaler is available to order today.
The benefits of speleotherapy is associated with the unique salt caves/mines microclimate. Natural dry sodium chloride aerosol, formed by convective diffusion from salt walls, is the major curative factor of the salt caves/mines microclimate. Other factors, such as a comfortable temperature and humidity regime and the hypo-bacterial and allergen-free air environment saturated with aero ions, enhance the therapeutic effect. Since Dr. F. Bochkowsky study, salt caves/mines are known to be used for therapeutic purposes in many countries, such as Austria (Solzbad-Salzeman), Romania (Praid), Poland (Wieliczka), Azerbaijan (Nakhichevan), Kirgizia (Chon-Tous), the Ukraine: Solotvino, (Carpathians), Artiomovsk (Donietsk region) and Russia, among others.
Even though speleotherapy gives lots of benefits to the health, it can be very costly and inaccessible. In 1989, Russian scientists had developed the Halochamber (artificial Salt cave) using the concept of salt cave therapy and make it become easily accessible. Patients sit in the halochamber for an hour per session while music and pleasant videos are played to create a relaxed mood. Halochambers are certified as medical devices in Russia, are in use in Eastern Europe, and are starting to spread to North America. In 2009, the salt room was firstly established in London.

No, the salt inside the Cisca Saltpipe is pure Halite mineral Salt crystal formed in middle miocene. This kind of salt crystals has been subjected to enormous pressure over millions of years. The pressure is responsible for creating the salt crystals. The higher the amount of pressure the more superior or excellent the state of order within the crystalline structure.
What is the small rubber valve on the Cisca Saltpipe?
The little rubber valve on the top of the Saltpipe is a back-strike valve, which functions when someone does not exhales through the nose, but blows the air back into the Cisca Saltpipe; the valve strikes back, blocks the way of air towards the pipe, this way protecting it from humidity and vapour. Please do not peel it off. If the valve comes off from the hole, there are 2 alternative simple ways to continue using the pipe. Our youngest children were 2 and a half years old. Saltpipe could be safely used by younger ones too, but the most important thing is to teach the kids to inhale through the mouth and exhale through the nose. It might be a little tricky to explain this to younger children.
Why do we have to exhale through the nose?
When we are using the Saltpipe we have to inhale through the mouth, and blow the air out through the nose.
